GARDENA 1979 Aquazoom 3800 Square Foot Oscillating Sprinkler

I have several oscillating sprinklers for various parts of my garden, however when one of them broke I thought I’d look into which new ones were available.

I looked at a few different models and after a bit i settled upon the GARDENA 1979 Aquazoom 3800-Square Foot Oscillating Sprinkler with Fully Adjustable Width Control, Flow Control and Water Timer!

Why? Because right at this moment in time, it’s the best oscillating sprinkler on the planet and my purchase was a no brainer. Here is my review of the product.

What Is The Gardena 1979 Aquazoom 3800 Square Foot Oscillating Sprinkler And How Does It Work?

It’s the latest oscillating sprinkler from Gardena, it’s been on the market only since the summer of 2010! It’s designed to water smaller, more targeted areas of your garden and is incredibly adjustable. You can adjust the width to between 12 – 46 feet and the length of spray to between 23 – 59 feet.

It’s built from quality materials, it will last for a very long time indeed! However the thing that really sold it to me was the built in timer! The timer is so easy to use and will mean that I’ll never again have to faff about with the timer on the hose or water pump! Although there are a couple of other oscillating sprinklers available with built in timers, neither of them are built to this standard.

What To Look For When Buying An Oscillating Sprinkler?

Is the spray adjustable?

Since the size of land that needs watering will be different for everybody, this is very important for all sprinklers. You need an oscillating sprinkler that’s adjustable to a wide margin. It needs to be adjustable both width ways and length way too, well ideally anyway. As stated above, the Gardena 1979 is indeed adjustable to a wide range and all done with a simple needle on the side.

Is it tripod adjustable?

The main reason we use oscillating fans is for watering either the lawn or plants on the ground. However, what about plants or trees which are higher up? This would be a problem for most or all oscillating fans. However, by combining your Gardena 1979 with a tripod, you can indeed reach the higher plants as it comes with a tripod screw. This means the water will instead be spraying in a horizontal plane from a height. Perfect for spraying those hard to reach plants.

Does it have a timer?

The annoying thing with most cheap sprinklers is that you need to keep a constant eye on the things. You also need to remember to go back to it to turn it off lest you flood your garden. With a timer you can simply set the duration of the coverage and then forget about it.

The Gardena 1979 comes with an easy to use timer which can be set for either continuous use or for any period between 5 and 120 minutes. Like i said earlier, this is about the only oscillating fan in existence with this capability at this point in time.

Back to me again, I’ll also point out that i use the Gardena 1979 with a Wayne sprinkler pump so i can pump water straight from the river down the side of my yard. This is a great money saver over the long run if you have access to a free water source and the Gardena 1979 has no problem coping with the massive water pressure which the pump sends its way!
